Blue Haze Elementary teacher Marissa Torres is one of six finalists in the 2018 Texas Teacher of the Year program! The Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) announced Monday that Torres, the Region XI Elementary Teacher of the Year, was selected from 40 outstanding regional teachers of the year.
"This is the first time in White Settlement ISD history that one of our teachers has been selected as a finalist for the state competition, and we couldn't be prouder of Mrs. Torres," said Superintendent Frank Molinar. "Her energy and enthusiasm for her students is contagious, and we are so blessed to have her in WSISD."
Torres said, “I don’t want to just help students arrive at the ‘right answer’ in my classroom. I want to help guide them to become independent problem solvers who can apply their skills and knowledge beyond the classroom."
She said, "Starting on the first day of school, I strive to connect everything we do to the real world and to emphasize the importance of contributing positively to both our classroom community and their outside communities.”
An educator for the past 10 years, Torres will participate in TASA's interview process next month, when the state winner will be announced.
