School Board

The Board of Trustees consists of seven elected citizens who are active in a variety of school, business and community groups. The Board offers stability and leadership to the district and sets the tone for educational improvement. Trustees serve overlapping terms of three years. Candidates run for specific places but do not represent certain geographical areas. Elections are conducted the first Saturday in May and two or three places are filled each year.

Regular scheduled board meetings begin at 5:30 p.m. on the third Monday of each month in the Board Room of the White Settlement ISD Administration Building, located at 8224 White Settlement Road. Citizens are encouraged to attend.

After these monthly meetings, the WSISD Board Minutes are posted for interested community members to review.

Steps to Addressing Concerns in WSISD

Resolving situations quickly to the satisfaction of everyone is beneficial to the children and the educational program. The steps shown below are the quickest and best methods for reaching satisfactory solutions. Please follow these steps should you ever encounter a situation in WSISD.

Contact the appropriate staff member

The most direct route to resolving a concern is to go directly to the person involved. More than 95% of concerns are resolved at this level.

Contact the Principal

A professional educator is in charge of each campus and is responsible for concerns that may arise from the school's operation. Explanations of policies and procedures, various clarifications and all types of campus information are available from the principal. Principals will assist you with appropriate forms.

Contact the appropriate district administrator

This level is the Superintendent (or designee). This step should only be taken when step one and two have not resolved the concern. Starting at this step will result in you being asked to attempt steps one and two first.

Contact the School Board

After taking steps 1-3 above without resolving a concern, a request in writing for a school board hearing is Step 4. This written request is made through the Superintendent.

Candidate Guide & Requirements

The Texas Election Code designates the Secretary of State as the chief election officer of the State of Texas. In order to provide information on the electoral process to all Texans, his office has prepared this guide in the expectation that increased information will result in increased participation.

Candidates to the Board of Trustees must conform to the Texas Education Code. Eligibility/qualification requirements can be found in Policy BBA (LEGAL). You can find information on running for local office on the Texas Secretary of State website. Current state law requires a candidate for trustee of an independent school district to be a qualified voter by the time required by Election Code Section 141.001.

WSISD provides the Secretary of State candidate form (Application for Place on the General Election Ballot for City, Schools and Other Political Subdivisions) in candidate packets. An application for a place on the ballot must be in writing; signed, sworn to by the candidate before a person authorized to administer an oath, and dated; timely filed and contain specified information about the candidate:

The candidate's name.
The candidate's occupation.
The office sought, including any place number.
An indication of whether the office sought is to be filled for a full or unexpired term.
A statement that the candidate is a United States citizen.
A statement that the candidate has not been finally determined mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote by a court with probate jurisdiction.
A statement that the candidate has not been finally convicted of a felony from which the candidate has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities.
The candidate's date of birth.
The candidate's residence address, or if the residence has no address, the address at which the candidate receives mail and a concise description of the location of the candidate's residence.
The candidate's length of continuous residence in the state and in the territory from which the office sought is elected as of the date that the candidate swears to the application.
A statement swearing to defend the Constitution and laws of the United States and Texas.
A statement that the candidate is aware of the nepotism law.
A public mailing address for campaign correspondence, if available, and any available electronic mail address at which the candidate receives correspondence relating to the candidate’s campaign.

About the Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees consists of seven members elected to serve, without compensation, for overlapping terms of three years each. Elections are conducted annually in May. Following the election, the board elects a president, vice president, and secretary to serve for one-year terms.

The next board of trustee general election is scheduled for May 2024.

The date for the 2024 school board election is May 4, 2024. The application period for a place on the ballot for school trustee is Jan. 17, 2024 through Feb. 16, 2024. Applications will be available at the WSISD Administration Building during regular office hours Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16. The drawing for places on the ballot will be conducted in the Human Resource Office at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, 2024.
