BMS eighth grader win National Spanish Spelling Bee second consecutive year

Brewer Middle School incoming eighth grader Melody Hinkle is the two-time National Spanish Spelling Bee Champion! After 8 hours and 28 rounds, she won 1st place, competing against 32 contestants. Hinkle won $5,000, an iPad, and a trophy.
A three-time national qualifier, Hinkle placed in the top 2 at the regional level the past five years. She automatically qualifies for the 2027 Nationals.
A student in the White Settlement ISD Dual Language Education Program since first grade, she is the daughter of Amy and Matt Hinkle. Her coach is WSISD Dual Language Coordinator Eva Valenzuela.
