Brewer High School Art 3 and 4 students recently teamed up with up and coming artists in the West Early Learners Academy kindergarten classes to create a wind chime sculpture.

Kindergartners traced and designed their own handprints to give a personal touch to the project. The high schoolers then transformed these designs into clay by rolling slabs, sculpting the hands, and glazing and firing each piece. They completed the project by engineering, assembling, and installing the final sculpture, turning individual contributions into a unified work of art.

“The project blended young imagination and advanced artistic craftsmanship, creating a shared work that celebrates community, mentorship, and creative connection,” said Kellyn Neunlist, an art teacher at BHS.

Ellie Salazar, a senior at BHS, teamed up with her younger sister, Olivia Salazar, to take part in the project. The sisters said they enjoy creating art together at home, especially working side by side with air-dry clay — Olivia’s favorite activity to do with Ellie.
