The WSISD Board of Trustees and Administration recognized Brewer Middle School child nutrition employee Jeannie Marshall with the Brewer Bear Hero Award during its March 25 meeting.
Before Spring Break, a student began choking in the lunchroom and walked back into the serving area pointing to his throat and motioned for help from Jeannie.
Before the other adults and the nurse were even notified, Jeannie had already performed the Heimlich maneuver and assisted the choking student. This is the fifth time in her life that she’s performed the Heimlich and possibly saved someone’s life.
"Not only does she help serve nutritious meals, but she is ready to act quickly to ensure the safety of our kids," said Superintendent Frank Molinar (pictured).
She is also pictured with Child Nutrition Director Kathy Huey and Board President Randy Armstrong.
