Kindergartners at the North Elementary STEAM Academy are becoming mini meteorologists! Kids learned the role of a meteorologist in forecasting the weather and how it enables people to prepare accordingly.
They participated in a variety of activities to explore the weather and sun as well as the effects of the sun on the Earth and learn vocabulary related to the weather.
Together, students used the design process to create structures to protect them from the sun, including umbrellas and pop-up tents for a lemonade stand.
They compared the temperatures of various earth materials—both indoors and outside as well as in the sun and shade—to understand the warming effect of the sun.
Mini Meteorologists is an innovative teaching grant funded by the WSISD Education Foundation. Pictured are students in Cathy Krysinki’s and Pamela Torres’ classes.
