The WSISD Board of Trustees approved a contract to replace the scoreboard and media center in C.F. Brewer High School Stadium during its regular January meeting.
The current board is 10 years old and outdated. The new scoreboard will give WSISD an opportunity to raise more money through its marketing and advertising plan because it includes a digital and complete advertising display.
Current advertising on the board is static and generates only $30,000 in marketing revenue annually. The new board will give WSISD the ability to raise between $50,000 and $100,000 annually.
The district will also replace the 10-year-old turf in Brewer High School Stadium. The new turf will include a concussion pad to meet the new state and UIL safety standards.
WSISD will also purchase a 53-foot marching band semi-trailer that will be used by the band program to transport band instruments and equipment.
Currently, the band program utilizes and rents multiple vehicles to transport equipment to every competition.
The improvements will be funded by WSISD's current fund balance through savings generated by the maintenance and operations budget over the past three years.
"We are extremely proud that we are able to fund these enhancements to our programs through cost savings rather than money that would be generated by a bond referendum," said Superintendent Frank Molinar.
"It's our desire to be the Best District in the Universe, and every year we intend to make it even better for our kids," said Molinar.
