Virtual Learning 5-12 Teacher Expectations

  • Teachers will report to an assigned campus during teacher work hours.

  • Teachers will maintain normal campus duties assigned by principal.

The following teacher expectations will be finalized after the virtual teachers are selected and virtual teachers have the opportunity to provide input that will result in expectations that ensure the best educational experience for students.
 
  • Provide specified time during the day for virtual classroom for Zoom online help 
  • Check attendance daily for online students 
  • Incorporate Sirius materials into instruction in STAAR subjects  
  • Contact students and parents if student misses 2 consecutive days of daily instruction, is failing class(es), or is not making progress 
  • Respond to parent communication within 24 hours, if received outside office hours 
  • Use SchoolStatus emails/announcements for all communication. (Please refrain from using the text feature as much as possible.  No communication should be sent on the weekends or outside the hours of 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. on weekdays.) 
  • Collaborate with team weekly 
  • Follow WSISD Grading Guidelines 
  • Provide necessary accommodations for all students under Section 504, English Language Learners, Gifted and Talented, and/or Special Education  
  • If a student’s plan needs to be significantly adjusted, an ARD or an amendment to the IEP should be considered. 
 

Inclusion/Resource Teachers   

  • Modify and/or accommodate assignments 
  • Partner with general education teacher for live sessions 
  • Separate times to provide individual check ins 
  • Document time spent with individual students 
  • Coordinate with speech and related service personnel  
 
ESL Teachers  
  • Accommodate assignments 
  • Partner with general education teacher for live sessions 
  • Separate times to do individual check ins 
  • Document time spent with individual students 

Canvas will be utilized for Grades 5 and 6. 

  • Provide daily assignments.  Assignments could be questions imbedded in instructional videos, exit tickets, formative assessments, discussion boards, etc. 
  • Provide 2 lessons per week over new instruction 
  • Record instructional videos delivered through Zoom 
  • Provide 2 instructional videos per week over new learning 
  • 1 grade per week 
  • Provide feedback required for assignments at least once a week
Edgenuity will be utilized for Grades 7 through 12.

  • Manage Edgenuity for each student in virtual classroom 
  • Provide feedback required for assignments at least once a week 
  • Send weekly progress report through Edgenuity 
  • Schedule time to meet with struggling students 
  • Meet with content teachers before each grading period to mirror content taught in-person
