2013 Athletic Hall of Fame

More than 100 people attended the 4th annual Brewer High School Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet and Induction Ceremony on Sept. 14.

Three individuals and one team were inducted:
George Clark, class of 1963
Jimmy Barger, class of 1966
Gary Cox, class of 1969
1965-66 Boys' Basketball Team
Honorees—inducted for their outstanding achievements in Brewer athletics—were also honored during pre-game of the football game on Sept. 13. The Hall of Fame now includes 24 inductees.
George Clark, Class of 1963

The 1963 Honorable Mention All-State Quarterback, George Clark was a three-year letterman in baseball, basketball, football and golf and a four-year letterman in tennis.
Brewer High School’s 1963 Most Athletic, Clark was All-District Quarterback and All-District in baseball in 1963.
He earned Honorable Mention All-District in basketball in 1963 and was a regional qualifier in tennis and golf the same year.
He received scholarship offers in football and baseball.
Jimmy Barger, Class of 1966

A three-year letterman in baseball, basketball, football and track, Jimmy Barger earned All-State Honorable Mention in football in 1966.
He was named 1966 All-District 1st Team in basketball and All-District in football and baseball. Barger also received All-District in football, basketball and baseball in 1965 and earned Honorable Mention All-District in baseball as a sophomore.
He received baseball scholarships to attend Blinn Junior College and the University of Houston, and he played in the National Junior College World Series with Blinn. He was also invited to try out for the New York Mets.
Gary Cox, Class of 1969

The 1969 Honorable Mention All-State Linebacker and All-District Quarterback, Gary Cox was selected 1968 BHS Most Athletic. The 1969 Outstanding Offensive Back and Football Captain, Cox was All-District Point Guard and All-District Pitcher in 1969.
Named All-District Honorable Mention Linebacker in 1967 and 1968, Cox was also All-District 1st baseman during those years.
He earned All-District Honorable Mention Quarterback and All-District Honorable Mention Point Guard in 1968.
A three-year letterman in baseball and football and a two-year letterman in basketball, Cox received a four-year athletic scholarship to TCU.
1965-66 Boys' Basketball Team
Tony McPherson, Steve Walker, Amy Starr Michie and Missy Starr Reuland, daughters of the late Daniel Starr, Joey Barger accepting on behalf of Jimmy Barger, and manager Ken Slovak.
The first and only team in Brewer history to win the District Championship and advance to the Playoffs, the 1965-66 boys’ basketball team had a 25-4 season record.
Head Coach was Don Matthews and Assistant Coach was Harvy Smith.
Jeff Cody, class of 1959 and 2012 inductee, spoke about the team's accomplishment, and also pictured is Superintendent Frank Molinar. 
The late Pat Killough and Mark Box were also members of the team, and managers were: Larry Bradley, Ronnie Echols, David Hatley, and the late Teddy Brown.
Named to All-Tournament teams were Lindley, Barger and Cody.
