The Brewer HS Fightin’ Bear Band is the largest single student organization at Brewer High school comprised of about 170 students. All students in the high school band participate in marching band, which rehearses outside of school. There are 3 concert bands, a jazz band, and color guard class that meet during the school day. Each band is team-taught, with multiple directors assisting throughout each rehearsal. Private lessons are available for any student during their band class or before or after school for a fee. In addition to band classes, there are multiple opportunities for participation in other individual and ensemble performances including All-Region/All-State, Solo & Ensemble, Jazz Band, Musical, as well as Indoor Drumline and Winterguard.
The Marching Band is comprised of all the students in our band program, 9th- 12th grade. The Marching Band supports our football team at every football game and performs our competition show at halftime. Students will participate in local marching festivals and UIL Marching Contests. Membership in the Marching Band is required for all BHS band members.
Wind Ensemble is the top performing concert ensemble in the band program and is open to students in all four grades. In order to be a member of this group, a student must demonstrate the highest level of musical maturity, technical proficiency, and commitment to rehearsal and practice time. A student must seriously pursue individual goals on their instrument as well as working diligently toward ensemble goals. Auditioning for all-region band and playing a solo at the UIL solo and ensemble contest is required. Private lessons are strongly encouraged.
Symphonic Band is considered the second performing concert ensemble and is also comprised of students in all four grades. To be a member of this group, a student must demonstrate a high level of musical maturity, technical proficiency, and commitment to rehearsal and practice time. Auditioning for all-region band and playing a solo at UIL solo and ensemble competition is required. Private lessons are strongly encouraged.
Concert Band is our third performing concert ensemble and is comprised of students in all four grades. Color Guard/Winter Guard
The Brewer High School Color Guard is the visual representation of the music on the field. The Guard consists of students from all four high school grade levels by audition only. Guard trains athletes to perfect their equipment skills, dance movement, and marching skills to perform as artists on the field during marching season and on the floor during indoor Winter Guard season. Winter Guard is during the second semester of the year. Students will learn a new show and compete all over the Metroplex in the NTCA circuit.
