Teachers & Employees of the Month » October 2016

October 2016

Our theme in White Settlement ISD this year is Be Inspiring ... Be Encouraging … Be the Difference. Teachers and Employees who receive this honor truly embody inspiration and encouragement. They are difference makers for our kids. They are "runners" who do whatever it takes to positively impact children, and they always go the extra mile. They have a growth mindset and the GRIT to do whatever it takes to ensure that their team and the students of WSISD are successful. They strive daily to help WSISD become The Best District in the Universe, and they work tirelessly to help kids Think Big.

Brewer High School
Teacher of the Month
Randall Bradshaw

“Mr. Bradshaw continues to show GRIT and growth mindset. She said he continues to:

  • Set and maintain high expectations for all students.
  • Keep learning fun and highly relevant.
  • Utilize technology in multiple ways to engage and prepare all his students.
  • Help provide training for other teachers during professional development.

Mr. Bradshaw is a true team player and a valued member of the Brewer High School family.  Mr. Bradshaw, you are simply the best and we love you.

Brewer High School
Support Staff Member of the Month
Tina Hardin
Front Office Secretary

“Mrs. Hardin's job is to maintain the front office, and this is one of the toughest jobs in the building.  Mrs. Hardin continues to demonstrate the welcoming pillar and shows GRIT to all the BHS customers, even when things are crazy.  Mrs. Hardin is willing to go above and beyond to make sure that everyone has what they need and is taken care of.  I had a parent make an appointment with me to tell me about the greatness of Mrs. Hardin.  Mrs. Hardin volunteered to print off the band music for the UIL competition (90-plus pages).  The parent said

Mrs. Hardin’s kindness was one of the reasons that the band received the highest rating at competition.  Mrs. Hardin is a true team player and a valued member of the Brewer High School family.  Mrs. Hardin, you are simply the best and we love you.”

Brewer Alternative Campus
Teacher of the Month
Chris Covington

“Mr. Covington's excitement in class inspires his students. He is a great teacher and is doing a fabulous job. Mr. Covington has gone out into the community to secure donations and freebies for the MESA kids. He has hit the ground running and is inspiring his students to want to learn math. I'm very happy that he is a part of our campus!

He is a fabulous teacher and has added positivity to our campus. He models Growth Mindset and demonstrates the team player mentality and always has a great attitude.

Thank you, Mr. Covington, for all you do for the students of BAC. You make a difference. Keep up the wonderful job.”

Brewer Alternative Campus
Support Staff Member of the Month
Michael Ford

“Meeting the needs of our students is Officer Ford's priority, and he definitely goes above and beyond. Michael is a great asset to our campus. He is supportive to the teachers as well as the students. He even bought a bicycle for a student to reward honesty. He is always willing to go the extra mile ... whether it's taking home a sick kid or calming a student. He truly cares for the students and their well-being. Thank you, Officer Ford, for all you do for the students of BAC. You make a difference. Keep up the amazing job.”

Brewer Middle School
Teacher of the Month
Michael Carr

“Coach Carr is constantly helping others out and talking to people.  The students really respect him and love his class. He has the upmost respect from all of his athletes and is doing a great job of teaching his boys responsibility and care for others.”

His students said, “He doesn’t mess around. He's fun but when it's time to work, it's time to work.  You know that he cares about what you do."

Brewer Middle School
Support Staff Member of the Month
Jana Shaw
Attendance Secretary

“Jana is very diligent in checking on students who have several absences. She's always willing to help where needed and works hard to get all classes covered, doing so with a smile! Ms. Shaw makes my job easier because she does her job so well.”

Tannahill Intermediate School
Teacher of the Month
Stacy Carter

“Daily, Mrs. Carter works with the students in our SPED program. She can be a 'Mother Hen' by providing the love and support to her students. However, she can also be a 'Hawk’ when needed to hold them accountable.

Many days, Stacy is one of the first to arrive on campus and last to leave. Her heart is as big as the caseload of kids she follows. If a kid is in trouble or in need, it doesn’t take Stacy long to jump in and help. She keeps us informed of SPED accommodations and attends more ARDS than any of us (except Robin)!

Stacy is kind-hearted, honest and has a kids-first attitude. We are fortunate to have her on the Hill!”

Tannahill Intermediate School
Support Staff Member of the Month
Jean Laboy

Mrs. Laboy has really made a tremendous impact on our campus in a very short time frame. She works in some of the most challenging situations – ISS and lunch detention. It should be that students don’t like seeing her, but that is the furthest from the truth. She runs a tight ship; however, she also acts in love and kindness.

She is able to build positive rapport with students who are facing consequences. She brings the calm to a storm of emotions. She absolutely never ceases to amaze us with her strengths. She is brilliant at communication and organization. Her willingness is just another incredible quality. What can we say? She rocks!”

Fine Arts Academy
Teacher of the Month
Michelle Moore

“We are very lucky to have Michelle as one of our own.  Daily, she goes above and beyond her normal duties to make sure our students' needs are met.  Whether she is taking a student to Main Event on Saturday, tutoring after school or dressing up as Mrs. Wonder Bread, there is no limit to what Michelle will do to build relationships. Her passion for our students' academic growth is undeniable and greatly appreciated by all.  Michelle inspires her colleagues each day to be a better educator.”

Fine Arts Academy
Support Staff Member of the Month
Cindy Barden

“Cindy oversees our custodial staff and makes sure our building is ready to go each morning.  She responds quickly to our needs and helps ensure our students have a safe environment for learning.” Our teachers say, "Any building-related issues you tell her about get addressed ASAP. She is always willing to do anything, whether it is unlocking my door or cleaning vomit off my floor. We are happy to have Cindy as part of our FAA family.”

“Ms. Robertson has been a part of the BHE family for several years, and she has touched so many lives here at Blue Haze Elementary.  She works hard to ensure that every one of her kindergartners has a great first year at BHE!  Each morning she welcomes our youngest Bears with a smile and hug, and all of Ms. Robertson's students leave her class knowing they are intelligent, valued and loved.

Ms. Robertson's passion for our youngest Bears is evident not only through her classroom instruction, but her amazing support for her colleagues year after year. We are so blessed that Ms. Robertson is a member of the Blue Haze family!”

“Jada joined the North Family as a second grade teacher last January, after serving for many years as a teaching assistant.  The transition to full-time teacher has been seamless.  You would never know she is still in her first year.  She truly seems like a veteran educator.  Her students adore her as well as her parents.  Through her interactive and rigorous lessons, she ensures that student growth is happening each day!”
