2023 Accountability Rating Update

In 2023, White Settlement ISD joined school districts across Texas in a lawsuit against the Texas Education Agency in response to last-minute changes made to the A-F accountability rating system. These changes significantly raised the standards schools must meet to earn letter grades—particularly in areas such as College and Career Readiness—and were applied retroactively to data from the 2022 school year, after instruction and assessments were administered.

At the same time, the STAAR exam transitioned to STAAR 2.0, which now includes only 75 percent multiple-choice questions; the remaining portion consists of short answer and new item types. Writing assessments also expanded from select grade levels (4th, 7th, English I and English II) to all grades.

WSISD proactively responded to these changes by investing in extensive teacher training, ensuring classroom instruction aligns with the updated test format and curriculum expectations. Math continues to be a major area of focus, particularly in addressing learning gaps caused by COVID-19 disruptions.

In addition, the district has significantly improved its college and career readiness efforts by increasing the number of students who earned Industry-Based Certifications (IBCs), enrolled in Dual Credit courses, and passed the reading and math sections of the Texas Success Initiative (TSI).
