 The WSISD Board of Trustees adopted the 2025-26 Academic Calendar on Feb. 24. The District Planning Committee solicited feedback regarding the proposed calendar from families and staff members. Concerns that were expressed often were:

  1. Change First Day of School:
    • Move first day of school to after Labor Day
    • If changed, the last day of school would be scheduled after Memorial Day, potentially extending into early June.
  2. Consider Four-Day Work Week:
    • District officials annually consider the implementation of a four-day work week. However, the administration does not recommend implementing this change due to the hardship it could cause working families, especially considering that more than 60 percent of WSISD students are low-socioeconomic and rely on free and/or reduced breakfast and lunch at school.
  3. Adjust Staff Start Date:
    • Move first day for staff from Friday, Aug. 1 to Monday, Aug. 4
    • If staff begins on Aug. 4, a day would need to be added to the schedule. This would result in one less holiday or professional work day.
    • If staff members attend the summer trade days in June, they would not return until Aug. 4.
