WSISD will continue the Blackout Calendar for 2026–27. Based on staff input, only the days before and after major holidays will be Blackout Days. Testing dates will apply only to the campuses involved, and campus-specific dates will be shared this spring. We'll leave the calendar as is.
Discretionary Leave & Blackout Days
To ensure sufficient staffing, employees may not request time off (half or full discretionary, local leave, or non-duty days) during blackout periods.
Request in advance: Discretionary personal leave must be requested 3 days ahead and is approved first-come, first-served.
-
Blackout Days: If an employee uses discretionary leave on these dates, it will result in a day-rate dock:
-
The last workday before a major school holiday
-
The first workday after a major school holiday
-
Staff development days
-
Days scheduled for end-of-class or state-mandated assessments or end-of-year semester exams (campus-specific testing days)
-
Exceptions (no dock): Family-related events that are not discretionary, such as:
-
Family definition: Includes spouse, children (biological, adopted, step, foster, in-laws), parents/guardians, siblings, grandparents, grandchildren, in loco parentis, and household members.
-
Note: Bad weather make-up days count as school holidays. With administrator approval, accrued comp time may be used on staff development or work days.
