Suicide Prevention & Awareness
Suicide is the second leading cause of death for ages 10-24. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the rate of suicide has increased by 30 percent nationally in recent years. In Tarrant County, the suicide rate is 55 percent higher.
WSISD believes that educating staff, students, families and the community is imperative to ensuring that this statistic decreases. As a district, we train our staff to identify students who may be at risk for suicide, refer students to counselors, and work with parents to provide support for students.
WSISD is dedicated to reducing the frequency of suicide attempts through awareness activities and prevention education. WSISD HOPE Squads organize activities throughout the year that promote hope and educate the community regarding suicide prevention and mental health awareness.
