Dress & Backpack Guidelines

The clear backpack policy applies to all students in 6 through 12. 

PreK through fifth grade students are encouraged but not required to use a clear backpack.

No. The only addition permitted on backpacks is the student’s name.

No, only clear backpacks will be allowed.

Yes. Students may carry a non-transparent pouch (no larger than 6 inches by 9 inches) to hold personal items such as cell phones, money and hygiene products in their backpacks. 

Any purse that is larger than 6 by 9 inches must be clear.  Only purses 6x9 inches or smaller can be non-transparent.  All bags are subject to search.

No. However, lunch bags and lunch boxes are subject to search. Non-transparent lunch boxes/kits no larger than approximately 6" x 9" x 5" are permitted.

Yes. Students in extracurricular activities such as athletics, fine arts, etc. may use organizational duffle bags, band instrument cases, etc.  Extracurricular sponsors, coaches, and directors will work with campus administration to determine designated, secure spaces for storing student bags (i.e. fine arts classrooms, locker rooms, etc.).  All bags and cases are subject to search. 

Many local and online retailers sell clear backpacks that can be picked up in-store, while others qualify for free shipping.

The options above are recommended examples; however, they are not required as long as the backpack meets the outlined guidelines.

Students must limit non-transparent 6" x 9" bags (lunch boxes/kits, purses, pouches) to two bags, regardless of whether they are carried inside or outside the backpack.

Yes. Small company and school logos are allowed, but large logos, monograms, or other visual design obstructions are not.

Yes, donations of clear backpacks are greatly appreciated. Email dcoyle@wsisd.net or call 817.367.5389 or contact the school counselor to make a donation. 

Backpacks must be clearly visible. They should not be lined with clothing and other items.
