COVID-19

Anyone with a fever of 100 or higher should not come to school or a WSISD facility. Students/Staff should also prescreen themselves for any of the following symptoms prior to coming to school:

• Temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher when taken by mouth;
• Loss of taste or smell;
• Sore throat;
• New, uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty in breathing (or for students with chronic allergic/asthma cough, a change in their cough baseline);
• Diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal pain;
• Muscle/body aches;
• Congestion; or
• New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever.
   

Students/Staff will have a temperature check for verification, especially if they are feeling ill or suspected of having a fever during the school day.

All staff will monitor students and refer to the nurse's clinic if symptoms are present. According to the assessment of the clinic staff, a plan will be determined. Parents will be contacted to pick up students who are unable to remain at school, and the student's return to school plan will be discussed.

Students
Parents must ensure they do not send a child to school on campus if the child has COVID-19 symptoms, a pending test or has been confirmed positive with a test until cleared by the campus nurse.

Student/staff suspected of COVID-19

Schools will immediately separate any student who shows COVID-19 symptoms while at school until the student can be picked up by a parent or guardian.

Schools will clean the areas used by the individual who shows COVID-19 symptoms while at school (student, teacher, or staff) as soon as is feasible.

Students/Staff with or without known exposure to COVID-19 and have not tested positive for Covid-19 are exhibiting symptoms

May return to school when all three of the following criteria are met:
At least one day (24 hours) has passed since resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medication;
At least one day (24 hours) has passed since resolution of vomiting and diarrhea without the use of medication
At least one day (24 hours) has passed since resolution of all symptoms (e.g. cough, headache, congestion, shortness of breath); and 
At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared.
 
OR
 
Student/Staff can return to school sooner if:
 
At least one day (24 hours) has passed since resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medication;
At least one day (24 hours) has passed since resolution of vomiting and diarrhea without the use of medication
Significant Improvement in symptoms (e.g. cough, shortness of breath);

AND

 
Documentation from a medical provider that symptoms are not related to COVID-19
OR
A negative COVID-19 test. A negative oral/saliva swab/antibodies COVID-19 test will not be accepted.

Students/Staff Who Have Tested Positive For COVID-19

An individual who has a positive COVID-19 test may return to school when cleared by the nurse and all of the following criteria are met:

1. At least one day (24 hours) has passed since resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medication
2. At least one day (24 hours) has passed since resolution of vomiting and diarrhea without the use of medication
3. All other symptoms resolved or significant improvement in all other symptoms (e.g. cough, headache, congestion, shortness of breath)
4. Per public health guidelines, social distancing and wearing a face mask is recommended through day 10. 

Students/Staff Who Have Been Exposed to COVID-19 With No Symptoms and have not tested positive

• Those who have known exposure with no symptoms can return to school, but the parents and students should self-monitor. 
• If symptoms begin, students should not attend school. 
• Per public health guidelines it is recommended to get covid-19 tested at least 5 full days after last exposure.

People with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness.

Symptoms may appear 1-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19:

• Temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher when taken by mouth;
• Loss of taste or smell;
• Sore throat;
• New, uncontrolled cough (or for those with chronic allergic/asthma cough, a change in their cough baseline);
• Diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal pain;
• Muscle/body aches;
• Allergy/cold like symptoms
• Congestion;
• New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever.

COVID-19 Vaccination Information

The COVID-19 vaccine is available for front-line health care workers, people age 65 and up, as well as those with underlying medical conditions.

When having a minor vaccinated, parents must provide proof of their age (i.e. birth certificate or a shot record). Parents must also provide an ID.
